California White Water Rafting 101
Although it is incredibly fun, rafting can provide some risks. This is the very reason why you should plan your trip with a reputable rafting company and be prepared. Find out what class river you should be rafting on. Rivers are classified according to their difficulty and the skills needed in order to boat on it. You don’t want to end up on a ride that is too hard for that you won’t want to try rafting again. If you’ve had a little more practice then you can go on rivers with higher classes.
There are specific river classes for each skill level when it comes to white water rafting. For families and first timers it is advisable to go on a river that is either class 1 or 2. Rivers under this class have little rough areas and will not require a lot of maneuvering.
With the right paddling skills you can take rivers that have more waves and even have drops in them. These types of rivers belong to classes 3 and 4. These will require the basic paddling skills. Those who have a lot of experience may try out class 5 rivers which will need a lot of maneuvering skills.
Some of the best rivers for white water rafting can be found in California, namely the South Fork American River in California, Kaweah River and Tuolumne River. All these rivers differ in the in classes and adventure. There will surely be something for everyone.
The South Fork American River belongs with three other rivers but is the most boated. Not only will you enjoy a rafting trip but beautiful scenery as well. Both the Tuolumne and Kaweah River belong to higher classes (3 and 4) which will give you an exciting ride and scenic views as well.
Don’t forget to bring along the right gear with you when you go on your rafting trip. Since you will be under the sun a lot, sun block and moisturizer are essentials. Don’t forget to pack clothes that are light weight and will dry easily since you will be getting wet even if you aren’t exactly in the water.
