In the online world of business, where innovation and ideas are created and made obsolete faster than we can hope to keep up, the road can get rough. The path we walk usually starts off pretty dreary and gray, and it’s usually pretty difficult to take a straight shot down that road, no matter how sober we are. The thing about this “road” is the flowers off to the side are usually much more inviting than the road itself. They invite us to smell, and to distract ourselves, if just for a few minutes.

Those flowers are DEADLY!

If you stop to smell the roses, even if you stop to look at them too long, you are systematically burying all of your progress, and your business. It may seem a tad bit extreme, but it really isn’t.

When you’re distracted with smelling the flowers (answering emails, making unimportant phone calls, watching television), not only are you putting a stop to the progress you have made until this point, you are now moving backwards!

How can that be?

Well, when you are doing those unnecessary things that keep you from your important tasks, you are putting those things you have to do on the back burners. Not only are they not being done, but, when you get back to them, you can’t remember what you were doing when you stopped! You lose all of the ideas and momentum that you had going for you before you got distracted. When you work for yourself, especially online, you have to use your momentum to your advantage, and you have to milk every last drop of it!

Now, that is best case scenario. A lot of times, you won’t even get back to work!

Can you start seeing how smelling the flowers, little by little, will systematically kill your business, and your dreams?

The scariest part, even just looking at the flowers can keep you from getting a thing done. What in the world does that mean? Well, how much time do you spend wasting just thinking about all of the things you could be doing, or that you’d rather be doing, instead of the things that you need to be doing?

That’s looking at the flowers, and admiring them, and not remembering there is a road ahead that you need to leave your mark on.
