By definition an electrician is a person who specializes in the electrical wiring of buildings and of the equipment that is involved with those buildings. They may be asked to maintain or repair the electrical infrastructure of a building, or they may also be asked to install new electrical components to replace ones that have gone bad. When a person is called an electrician, it is worth noting that they are considered an individual skilled tradesman.

When finding all the different kinds of electrician’s work that exist, note that at least in the US, there is a definite distinction pointed out about inside wireman and the outside lineman, the first one works on things inside a structure and the second work on higher voltage similar to those of a company’s distribution systems. Also there are different divisions within this type of contracting that are light industrial wiring, residential wiring, industrial wiring, and commercial wiring. Different types of problems require different specialists to handle them.

Electricians also deal with troubleshooting a great extent of the time. Often times they are consulted about a system that is not working correctly, and due to this, the electricians have to recognize what the problem is and where it is located and perform all repairs that are necessary or call the type of electrician that does fix it. There are other specialists in this field, which are electricians who deal with research equipment, marine equipment, and the in hospital systems. There are even specialists that deal with the electrical workings of a theater, this is basically about the lighting though not the wiring of the building.

There are many dangers involved with any job when manipulating and using electricity, so because of this, this trade has to be regulated very carefully. In the way to becoming an electrician, people go through a lot of testing, and then they have to register and get licensed too. Here we need to note that prior to an electrician being allowed to work solo, they have to work an apprenticeship under the guidance of a Master Electrician, and then they also have to be closely supervised by a Journeyman class electrician, this takes some time usually about 3 - 7 years. Usually the apprentices do get paid for their work, and of course when they become a Journeyman class electrician they are then allowed to work on there own on any type of electrical work except the for the design area.
