Most fans know him by Jay-Z, but his real name is Shawn Carter. Carter was born and raised in Brooklyn; raised in the Marcy House projects to be more exact. His father walked out on his family before he hit puberty, and by the age of 12 the boy had shot his brother for stealing from him. (Luckily it was just a shoulder wound, but just the same.) Keeping the boy in school was impossible, and he finally dropped out at some point during his high school career. The only way he knew to make money and a living and name for him was to push and deal crack.
